BHS softball opens with win at South Ripley

The Batesville High School softball team posted a 16-1 win at south Ripley. Pitcher Grace Copley struck out 12 batters on the day. She also gave up four hits and one run over four and two-thirds innings while walking four. Batesville got on the board in the top of the second inning after Hailey Hundley drew a walk, scoring one run, Fox drew a walk, scoring one run, and Payton Yorn singled, scoring two runs. Batesville Varsity Bulldogs added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Laken Obermeyer grounded out and Jada Zins doubled to center field, each scoring one run. The Bulldogs added six more runs in the top of the fifth inning on three hits. Obermeyer doubled, scoring one run, Zins singled, scoring one run, and Fox hit a grand slam to center field. Batesville amassed 10 hits in the game. Obermeyer and Zins each collected two hits for the Bulldogs. Hundley led the team with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying 11 walks for the game. Cora Roth stole two bases. Batesville was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Roth had the most chances in the field with nine.
