Bulldogs post 13-3 win over Shiners

The Batesville High School varsity baseball team opened the season with a 13-3 win at home over Rising Sun. The Bulldogs got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Carson Meyer hit a solo home run to left field, Brayden Maple doubled, scoring one run, Jackson Elston doubled, scoring two runs, and Noah Weigel singled, scoring one run. Batesville added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Maple grounded out, and Weigel was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run. The Bulldogs added one run in the third. Dane Dudley grounded out, making the score 8-3. Meyer earned the win on the mound for the Bulldogs. The starter gave up one hit and three runs (zero earned) over four innings, striking out six and walking three. Batesville accumulated 13 hits in the game. Ronan Post went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Bulldogs in hits. Dudley and Elston each drove in three runs for Batesville Varsity Bulldogs. Meyer, Weigel, and Jackson Peetz each collected multiple hits for Batesville. William Huber paced the team with two walks. Overall, the Bulldogs had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Huber stole two bases.
